From facts to fiction: How I became a mystery writer

              Anne Hillerman, the eldest daughter of beloved Southwestern mystery writer Tony Hilllerman, will discuss what gave her the gumption to leave her work in journalism and non-fiction writing and consider something totally different: continuing Tony’s popular Jim Chee/Joe Leaphorn mysteries. (And, no, he didn’t tell her she had to do it!) Anne will mention the positives and the potholes involved in following in her father’s footsteps, and talk about some of the surprises she’s encountered along the way in this mid-life career change.

Prime Rib Buffet at Furr's Cafeteria Dec. 11 - 11/30/2017

Let your urges run wild at Furr's Cafeteria on Monday evening Dec. 11 from 4-6 PM.  Join the Manzano Mesa K Kids and Advisor Valerie Holton at the Furr's Buffet just north of Indian School, on the east side of Wyoming.  We will celebrate the first semester of projects and fundraising, and meet some of the parents who are carrying a lot of the weight of the amazing fundraising efforts of the K Kids.


T-Day Gift Baskets Make a Big Difference for Manzano Mesa Elementary Families - 11/22/2017

The Manzano Mesa K Kids, lead by school Advisor Valerie Holton, collected food all month for distribution to more than a dozen families on Nov. 21 and 22.  Our club contributed ten turkeys, and a dozen huge pumpkin pies with Cool Whip.  The photo was sent to Valerie by one of the recipients: a thankful lady and her faithful companion.


K Kids Selling Luminarias Through 14 - All Proceeds Used for Donations - 11/20/2017

Order forms for luminarias priced at $12/dozen will be at hand during the next four Tuesday Luncheon meetings.  Friends of the Manzano Mesa K Kids will deliver your orders sometime between Dec. 15 -19 (we will even load them in your car after our Holiday Party on Dec. 19.

For those who can't be at one of these meetings, please call Dave,  681-6325.


Members Meet at Fuddruckers to Support Abq Reads - 11/16/2017

More than a dozen members dined large at Fuddruckers Coronado last month, when that restaurant offered a percentage of its profits for the day to support Abq Reads.  Many of our members have tutored APS students weekly at 3 different schools for many years.

Kim Kerschen and her husband also dined a Fudds that evening.  John Emerson and Steve Schroeder were inadvertently cropped out of the photo by the novice photographer.

2017 Charitable review committee final determination

1) New Mexico Museum of Natural History - $4500.00 (to be facilitated by Cirrelda Snyder-Bryan)  “Kiwanis Garden Discovery Hour for Preschool Children-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque. This program will be delivered directly to children, and will be advertised and promoted broadly by NM Museum of Natural History (newsletters and direct mailings to the public). Enhanced Kiwanis Signage for the garden is included in this grant. We can arrange to help with this program any time. Great for our members.
